It is 1955 and the Island of Elba is still a tourist destination only for the lucky few, who land here with private yachts or cargo ships to enjoy nature and the sea undisturbed. On the deserted beach of Procchio the young entrepreneur and Milanese artist Mario Camerini walks alone up to run into the small restaurant "Il Gabbiano" and has an idea: take it and build a luxury hotel in its place for a chosen clientele. Salvatore Quasimodo, Fausto Coppi and Lucio Fontana - who carves the ceiling of the restaurant today on show at the Gallery of Modern Art in Milan - they were among the fixed guests of the Hotel del Golfo.

It is in the '80s that Camerini decides to sell the Hotel del Golfo but it is not easy to find the right buyers, who know how to take care of such a precious heritage without distorting it, until they meet the De Ferrari, hospitality experts for four generations, already owners of two high-level structures on the Elba Island. Today the De Ferrari family continues to take personal care of the Hotel del Golfo, ensuring that generous and attentive hospitality which has always distinguished the hotel since its early years.
